Director of SCS Theatre Department
MacKinsey Taylor is the theatre teacher at Shelbyville Middle and High School. She is also in charge of directing the fall musical and spring play at the high school, as well as the junior musical at the middle school. She graduated in May 2017 from the University of Indianapolis with a degree in Theatre Education. She first found her love for theatre in middle school herself by taking classes at the Civic Theatre. Throughout high school and college she continued to audition for shows, as well as assistant direct, and work on various crews. One of her favorite shows she was involved while in college was called The Totalitarians. She won an Irene Ryan award for her acting and competed in the American College Theatre Festival. She has enjoyed her time so far here in Shelbyville and cannot wait to continue putting on amazing productions at both the middle and high schools!

SCS Assistant Director
Rachel Hatton is a seventh grade Social Studies teacher at Shelbyville Middle School. She is also the assistant director for both the fall musical and spring play at the high school, as well as the junior musical at the middle school. She graduated in May 2017 from Ball State University with a degree is Social Studies Education and History. She first found her love for theatre by being involved in shows starting in 1st grade with Hendricks Civic Theatre. Throughout middle and high school, she was involved in shows every year as well as going to Dramatic Arts camp in the summers, where she was a counselor upon graduating from high school. One of her favorite shows she was in during high school was Thoroughly Modern Millie as the villain Mrs. Meers. She has recently gotten back into her performer side in a production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame at Footlite in summer 2019. Rachel has enjoyed her time working with these talented students and cannot wait to continue working with them moving forward!

SHS Band/Pit Orchestra Director
Russ Smith is the Director of Bands at Shelbyville High School, a position he has held for the past 29 years.  During his tenure at SHS, Russ has directed the pit ensemble in shows including, Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, The Wizard of Oz, Little Women, Nunsense, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, The Music Man, and Beauty and the Beast.   Part of his other responsibilities include teaching the Wind Band, the Concert Band, the Beginning Band, Music Theory and AP Music Theory classes, and directing the SHS Marching Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Bands.  In his free time, Mr. Smith enjoys playing lead trumpet in the Schoolhouse 4+3 German Band and the Schoolhouse 4+3 Dixieland Band.  He is a proud graduate of the Indiana University School of Music, where he earned his BME and MS Degrees.  Mr. Smith is married and has two grown daughters.

SMS Choral Director
Myra Crosby currently teaches at Shelbyville Middle School where she directs the following choirs:  6th grade, 7th grade Girls, Mixed Ensemble, and the Jazz Choir.  She also directs the music for the annual SMS Madrigal Dinner and Spring Musical.  She has had the privilege of being the Music Director for shows such as Cinderella, Pirates of Penzance, The Music Man, Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Annie, Once on the Island, and Fiddler on the Roof.  She holds a B.S. in Music Education degree from the University of Indianapolis, and a Masters degree in Education from Indiana University.  Mrs. Crosby also has a nursing license and works part-time at DCMH in a Med/Surg unit.  Along with the aforementioned, she also helps her husband on their dairy farm.  Together they have four children.

Floyd Neeb worked many years for the Indiana BMV as an artist/cartographer.  He has worked on many shows for SHS over 25 years. Some of his favorite sets he has designed are for The Wizard of Oz complete with a giant wizard head that had a moving mouth and lasers for eyes, Carousel with a full-sized carousel with four horses that moved around, and Little Shop of Horrors complete with a large talking, man-eating plant.  Floyd also keeps the lights and sound in Breck Auditorium up-to-date and in working order.

Choreographer
Avery Lee Dalton, 22, is a dancer, choreographer, and creative designer based out of Chicago. After graduating from Shelbyville High School in 2016, he began working as a freelance choreographer. Avery has been able to make a career of it and thus dedicates the majority of  his time to choreographing show choirs, musicals, dance teams, and working at various dance camps across numerous states.
