How can I get involved in the theatre program at Shelbyville High School?
Easy! You can audition for one of our upcoming shows, come to a Drama Club meetings, or join tech! Contact Miss Strausbaugh for more information - especially if you're interested in tech! We always need more help backstage. She is in Room 222 or you can email her! [email protected]
I don't like being on stage, is there still a way for me to do theatre?
YES!! You can join our tech crew if you don't like performing on stage. We always need people to help build and paint sets, gather and manage props, work lights, run sound, help move set pieces on and off stage during the show, help with costumes (you don't need to know how to sew!), some shows even require a make up team! We are ALWAYS looking for more help with our backstage crew and for more people to join. If this sounds like something that interests you, please reach out to Miss Strausbaugh!
I like to act, but I'm not good at singing or dancing and don't wanna be in a musical...is there a show I can audition for?
Of course!! Every fall Shelbyville High School puts on our musical production, but in the spring we put on a straight play! A straight play is a show without any singing or dancing. Even if you love doing musicals, being involved in the spring play is a great way to focus on and improve your acting and public speaking skills.
Do I have to be in a drama class to be in a show?
Nope! Anyone at SHS is invited to audition for a show or sign up to be in tech crew!
What if I didn't do theatre in middle school? Can I do theatre at the high school?
Of course you can! Anyone at SHS is invited to audition for a show or sign up to be in tech crew, even if you don't have any past experience!
What if I play a sport or am in band? Can I still be involved in theatre?
Yes!! Our fall musical requires a pit band, which is directed by the fabulous Mrs. Anderson, so if you're interested in playing in the pit band you can contact her. Band members are also able to audition to be in the spring play since it doesn't have as many conflicts! We've also got quite a few athletes involved in our productions, just let us know your practice and game schedule and we are more than happy to work with you!
I've got a question but don't see an answer to it already provided, who can I contact?
You can contact our director - Miss Michaela Strausbuagh - at [email protected]
